Picton Rail Bridge 199
This project was the replacement of an existing historic rail bridge that was required to be upgraded. Fulton Hogan asked Conpavers to replace, as a part of their contract to Kiwi Rail the bridge in full using precast concrete beams and slabs. It required all the talents of the CMT Group combined, to bring it all together perfectly, utilising our digger operators, formwork specialists, concrete placers, fabricators and builders from MC Construction to get the required result.
Working to the specifications of the engineers, Conpavers poured prefab concrete beams off-site and had to transport them and crane them into place on site. The historic bridge was taken apart whilst in operation to avoid delays to a vital link of goods to the rest of the South Island. We were asked to remove the existing bridge without closures and place the concrete structures and pour concrete around the train schedules. It was not difficult and required good time management from all trades on site. All the formwork, steel reinforcing and mesh were supplied and done by Conpavers. This was an interesting job that required patience and lots of wet-weather gear.
